Twente Centre for Studies in Technology and Sustainable Development

Frans Coenen Department Chair
Frans Coenen

"Sustainable Water, Energy and Spatial Governance" is a strategic research programme at the Institute for Innovation and Governance Studies.

The Centre's research is built around four research themes that address various areas of sustainable development: water management, energy and climate, sustainable production and consumption, and sustainable development at regional and local levels.

All these areas pose challenges for governance; responding is of vital importance for sustainable development and innovation.

The programme was recently (in 2009) visited by an international panel and was awarded the highest rating possible. CSTM offers university education at the Master's and Ph.D. levels.

The Master of Environmental and Energy Management is primarily organised by the Centre in Friesland. The Ph.D. programme offers places to a growing number of students from all over the world.

The CSTM has, in addition to a number of part-time professorships, two full-time professorships: "Policy Studies and Environmental Policy" and "Technology and Sustainable Development in a North-South Perspective".
