From late 2009 there has been a slowing of growth of the School of Management and Governance, which continued into 2010. This slowdown has been a result of the general trend of restraint and reflection, which also affect the University of Twente and also the School of Management and Governance in particular.
2009 was a period of substantial growth in the numbers of professors and associate professors (UHDs) in the School of Management and Governance. In light of the necessary slowdown in the faculty's growth, appointments in 2010 were restricted to one special professor and one female associate professor.
The University of Twente aims to improve the opportunities for female advancement by removing barriers to promotion. The School of Management and Governance is a trendsetter within the University of Twente in terms of the number of women in academic functions and higher support staff positions. By the end of 2010, 21.2% of all associate professors and 18.7% of all full professors were female. Among senior support positions, women were employed in 35.7% of positions by FTE weighting.
The School of Management and Governance is committed to scouting, recruiting and retaining its academic talent. Tenure track positions provide talented and excellent assistant professors an accelerated course to associate professor positions, and if appropriate, to professorships. This model operates through strict conditions and criteria for educational and research performance, as well as management tasks in the area of knowledge exploitation. In 2010, a tenure track committee established the principles of these conditions and criteria, with the goal to implement the new tenure track policy fully in 2011. A few such positions have already been offered within the School.
